What You Need To Know About Immigration

Immigration can be defined as the process of entrance of a person into a new country, for the purpose of establishing permanent residence. A number of factors can influence a person to immigrate to a new country. Most of the time the reason a person immigrates is economic in nature, although religious or political factors may also be very important. People immigrate to other lands for many reasons, but the main reasons are to find work or for further education. In the US, there are strict immigration laws that must be followed before one can gain residence in the country.

Most countries require a passport and a visa for immigrating. Many different types of visas are available. Each has its own advantages and drawbacks. A person wishing to immigrate to the US must decide on the type of visa that suits his requirements best. For example, in order to work in the US a person must apply for a non-immigrant visa. This will enable them to work for extended periods in the United States. Acquiring permanent resident status in the US is a much more complex matter. Usually, in order to be eligible to apply for an immigrant visa, a US citizen must be ready to sponsor the foreigner. This US citizen can be a relative or a prospective employer. A large number of people immigrate to the U.S every year to pursue further education. Most non-US citizens who wish to study in the United States get an F-1 (non-immigrant) student visa. Visas other than F-1 are sometimes issued to those who wish to study in the US.

Immigration laws are often very complex. It is very important to choose an immigration representative very carefully, to ensure a smooth immigration process, as there is a lot to know, and a lot of paperwork to process.
